# Dallas Home Care Cost (2026)

By **Albert Sloss, Editor** · Updated Oct 21, 2026 · [Editorial policy](https://familyhomecareguide.com/editorial-policy/)

**Short answer:** Expect about **$30 an hour**, the Texas median for a non-medical caregiver ([CareScout/Genworth Cost of Care Survey, Jul–Nov 2025](https://pro.genworth.com/riiproweb/productinfo/pdf/282102.pdf)). That's about **$5,720 a month** at 44 hours a week. For the Dallas–Fort Worth metro specifically, a site that republishes CareScout data reports a 2025 median of **$33 an hour** ([compare-index.com, citing CareScout 2025](https://us-caregiver-pay-rates.compare-index.com/metro/Dallas-Fort%20Worth-Arlington%2C%20TX/)). We haven't yet confirmed that figure on CareScout's own site.

## Live-in care vs. 24-hour shift care

**Short answer:** With 24-hour shift care, two or three caregivers take turns and someone is always awake. With live-in care, one caregiver stays in the home and gets time to sleep. Because they're staffed differently, agencies often price them differently.

For example, Assisting Hands describes 24-hour care as 2–3 caregivers working 8–12 hour shifts who stay awake the whole time, versus a live-in caregiver who lives in the home ([source](https://assistinghandsnorthtx.com/dallas-tx/live-in-24-hour-home-care/)). Care Mountain gives the same distinction: a live-in caregiver lives in the home and takes breaks to rest, while 24-hour care uses a team working in shifts so care never stops ([source](https://www.caremountain.com/)). Typical Dallas live-in rates: TBD. None of the agencies we reviewed publish them.

## Minimum hours

**Short answer:** It depends on the agency, so always ask. Few Dallas agencies publish an exact number. Care Mountain says its schedules start at **four hours a day** ([source](https://www.caremountain.com/)). Granny NANNIES advertises "low minimums" but doesn't give a number ([source](https://grannynannies.com/dallas)).

Questions to ask: Is there a minimum per visit? Per week? Do rates change on nights, weekends, or holidays? Is there a contract or cancellation fee? (Home Care Assistance of Dallas says it has no long-term contracts, per [its site](https://homecareassistanceofdallas.com/dementia-home-care/).)
